Go Free with Confidence! Safe Tans for Summer Fashions May 20 2014, 0 Comments

Warm weather is here, and with it I’m longing to pull out my cute capris and sleeveless tops. But this early in the season, aren’t we all still white as a ghost from winter? I like to have a little bit of a healthy glow when wearing skin-bearing outfits, but my health and safety is a top priority.

May is Melanoma Awareness Month, and while we Americans often equate a tan with being healthy, we’ve learned that long-term exposure to the sun is actually dangerous, and can cause deadly skin cancers. Rates of melanoma in people aged 18 to 39 have risen by 800 percent in the past 40 years. The good news is death rates are decreasing, thanks to early detection. And don’t think the tanning bed is a safe alternative. Studies show that people who use tanning beds once a month before the age of 35 increase their risk of contracting melanoma by 75%!

So this spring, when you’re trying on that bathing suit, give your body a good check, and be on the lookout for any changes. Or take advantage of a free screening, provided by members of the American Academy of Dermatology. Click here to find a location near you.

Luckily big hats and sunglasses have become quite stylish, and the dark tans of the 70s have become a thing of the past. But the trend to tan is still there. So join me in looking for sunless tanning products this spring!

We’ve come a long way from those spray tan products that turned half your body orange. These days, while you can still get sunless tanners in spray forms, they also come in lotions, gels and mousses. Lotions go on smooth and easy, giving you great coverage. Sprays are fast, and good for your face and neck, but hard to cover your whole body unless you have a spare set of hands to help. Check out this list of some of the top products reviewed from Cosmopolitan, and give one a try.

Bronzers are another good alternative to brighten up your face and neck. Check out what’s available from your favorite make-up line.

It’s time to brighten up those arms and legs, and shop for some new capris from Go Free Pants. You’ll look great and feel sexy!
